Student Summary Profiles and Adjustments
Whilst working with James Fallon High School, I had the opportunity to work collaboratively with the school's learning support team. The learning support officers (SLOs) work alongside teachers at the school to create plans and develop resources which cater for diverse learning styles and needs. I was fortunate enough to become quite close with the learning support team. They were a consistent support for myself in planning lessons and behaviour management strategies.

To the right, are two examples of student summary profiles developed by the learning support team. The students’ names have been covered to retain their anonymity. However, the summary profiles provide valuable insight into students’ strengths and challenges, current/prior adjustments to learnings, sensory notes, and even goes on to suggest reasonable adjustments which could be made in the classroom to cater for each student.

It is in consideration of these recommendations that I structured most of my lessons. For the students in my two main classes, visual and kinaesthetic learning styles were most prominent. Consequently, many of my lessons featured kinaesthetic games and visual explanations.

The above gallery features several pages taken from James Fallon High School's Teaching and Learning Adjustment Suggestions guide which I was provided whilst on placement. The guide is available to all staff and used to develop alternate forms of teaching and assessment to cater for diverse students’ learning needs.

In developing my unit plans I took particular notice of the assessment adjustment strategies. I utilised formative assessment methods throughout the units, providing opportunities for every student to demonstrate their understanding in ways that were comfortable for them. Be that through drawing, music, acting, discussing or writing.
